Bhola Paswan Shastri is one of the revolutionaries who played an important role in the struggle for freedom in India. He was best known as the Chief Minister of the State of Bihar, 3 occasions between the duration 1968 to 1971.
He was born in 1914 in Bairgacchi, Purnea district, Bihar. His family belonged to the Pasi community. This community, at the time of its birth and even before, was considered an untouchable community.
But since his birth, he was a dynamic person, full of zeal, love for his country and a great interest in politics and social issues.
His original name was Bhola Paswan. What added Shastri to his name was due to his intellect and educational charisma. Despite belonging to a community that was very oppressed, he graduated from Kashi Vidyapeeth.
He passed the ‘Shastri’ exam, considered the highest honor at that time, and therefore the title ‘Shastri’ was conferred on him.
A brief history of Bhola Paswan Shastri
Formerly known as Vihar, Bihar was the first empire of the Maurya dynasty. Once the Mauryas conquered it, they changed it to Magadha, which was its capital. It was the center of learning, economics, cultural heritage and power for more than 1000 years.
This place was under the reign of the British dynasty in the 18th century and since then this small and separate British province has fought all the time to get rid of the British chains. Bhola Paswan Shastri had the best part in this fight.
The Pasi community:
The community of Pasi was a Dalit community. It was a community considered as an untouchable community by those who belonged to higher castes. The positive impact on caste discrimination in India, this caste is now classified as a scheduled caste.
As the people of the Pasi community were also known as Chaudhary, Bhola Paswan Shastri’s father was also called Chaudhary. Traditionally they were making toddy.
But despite many atrocities and a lower status that society infers from them, He was still a brilliant student. He gained a respectable position by learning from Kashi University.
A carrier as Chief Minister between (1968-71)
After being educated, Bhola Paswan Shastri openly objected to the caste system and the atrocities inflicted on members belonging to the Dalit community. He has been active during many struggles that have helped raise the people of this community.
Later, he became actively involved in political activities, which was his area of interest from the school.
Paswan was an active member of many political movements in the struggle for freedom in India. His contribution to politics made him the Chief Minister of the state of Bihar in 1968.
An agricultural school called Bhola Paswan Shastri was established in his birthplace, Purnea, in 2011. He was undoubtedly one of the most successful and dynamic personalities in the history of India.
